Ben Franklin said, "I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it."

There should be no welfare. It should be workfare. You want free food, transportation, housing, education, utilities? Then you can't sit at home. Expect to get callouses, sweat and a sore back before you get that EBT card. It's not demeaning or criminal to ask those in the wagon to get out and help pull it. They've been on a free ride too long. Around 1900 social services represented .5% of GDP and has now grown to over 4.5% and is slated to continue drastically upward as the minimum criteria for federal benefits is increased. Under Obamacare a family of 4 with an income o $90k is eligible for a subsidy. Even foreigner nationals are going to qualify for Obamacare. So much for it only applying to citizens.

Anita - this has nothing to do with "kindness". It has to do with the total lack of responsibility of our elected officials - and, by extension, the voters - to honestly make everyone aware of the fact that taxpayers were paying for the welfare of other people when those people were not working - and, in fact, the system has been "rewarding" people to be on welfare programs rather than working.
Your comments do nothing to further reasonable debate about our enormous debt and the accompanying problems by claiming those who are concerned about our rapidly growing (and unsustainable) debt is a huge impending problem.

Here in Florida it is common to see the lazy, barely literate people riding the system. They carry Coach purses, have absurdly expensive hairdos and have the latest smart phones and buy shrimp and deli cakes with their EBT cards. This is our country: we pay the worthless parasites of society to stay home and have children. More children- more money. It's not good for them and not good for those who are willing to work. Anyone at all should be able to get welfare, but only for two years and after that let poverty provide some incentive for self-betterment.

As someone who works for a federal aid program, before someone posts about federal aid programs, they should probably have a better understanding of the topic. Take foods stamps for example. Food Stamps [SNAP] kept almost 5 million families out of poverty in 2011, has one of the lowest fraud rates of any federal program and has a return of nearly $2 for every dollar spent. Our aid programs are not the issue here and those that rely on them.

When I was 12 years old, the "War on Poverty" was started by Pres. Kennedy. Even as a child, I knew that even though people needed help, if nothing was ever demanded in return, they would take advantage of it and it would never end. The whole system is backwards! Instead of just continuing to give and give, we should be training/educating people to support themselves! We should be supporting them less and less as they get on their feet instead of just ripping the rug out from under them if they earn a dollar! There should be a time limit of ... say 3-4 years before all aid ends! (Of course this would not apply to those UNABLE to work) Not only would this end this boondoggle of a bottomless pit of poverty but would contribute to the economy and society as a whole! Are there ANY people out there using their BRAINS?!?

If I had this big of a problem with seeing that people are getting food and basic's,I sure would not be comfy cozy somewhere writing about who's getting more Aid and where. I think a real perspective about the abuse that goes on here is a much better way to express abusive opinions concerning people on Aid, calculated statistics is a good feed however it is a very offensive and intrusive way to determine if people deserve Aid from their on Gov.
