Jerry you could not be more wrong. The CBO announced just last week that these offices are just wasting tax payer money on combating everything you just mentioned. I have no idea how you can claim to be a libertarian when in fact liberty has nothing to do with your belief system. You sound like a progressive stuck on reforms that have never worked. Regulations do nothing but make more barriers to entry and very seldom do they work because they all have loop-holes built in. To anyone who really understands economics ignore Libertarian Jerry(the poser) because this ignorance mixed with misguided information and interpretations of the data is what got us where were at now. Government employees are paid through tax dollars and the more offices you make the more of a burden that is placed on the people paying the taxes. Government institutions do not care about customer service just look at how the IRS operates. If it was not a government agency it would have went out of business years ago. Regulations make it hard for people to start up any real business just look at how hard it is to open up a simple restaurant in New York City.A little girl cannot even sell Lemonade on the street without getting at least two different permits and a health inspection give me a break. Regulations are killing american and our freedoms.

Government regulations are often necessary,in a market economy,to prevent fraud, pollution, shoddy dangerous products, unsafe medical practices, unsafe drugs and so forth. Also the government,by having reasonable laws and regulations, acts as a referee in business disputes. With that said,it is obvious that in today's market, regulations go far,far beyond reasonable regulations and drift into the area of collusion and abuse of power. Collusion can be defined as established businesses using government regulations (many of which are written by the lobbyists who work for the established businesses) to keep out new and or smaller competitors. Also regulations can be used by politicians to "shake down" businesses for bribes or campaign contributions. Another negative reason for over regulation is that the more regulations the more government employment is needed to police the regulations. These employees often are a voting base for political parties and politicians to increase their partisan vote come election time. All and all, what has happened is that government has taken one of its few necessary functions and expanded it to a point of negative absurdity. In essence, the government, with over regulation and over taxation,is killing the goose that lays the golden egg. What is tragic about the whole situation is that the politicians and the bureaucrats really don't care.
