It’s easy to spend money on frivolous projects, when it’s not your money to spend. CBN News Washington Sr. Correspondent Paul Strand exposes various wasteful spending initiatives that makes one question, who even thinks of these things? Some of these projects are extremely creative, I will give Washington that much.
- More federal funding in the amount of $593,000 went to a primate research center to study where in chimpanzees’ brains they get the idea to throw their feces.
- A Virginia university received $55,000 to study Jordanian students’ water pipe smoking habits.
- A new grant of $176,000 joined $350,000 already spent to study how cocaine hurts or helps the sex drive of Japanese quail.
- A museum of magic received $147,000 to study the audiences of magic shows.
- More than $550,000 of U.S. taxes went to the production of a documentary on how rock bands contributed to the fall of the Soviet empire.
- IPad 2s were purchased for $96,000 for students in Maine, where 96 percent of their parents said the cost wasn’t worth it.
- Nevada’s Western Folklife Center received $50,000 for cowboys and cowgirls to gather once a year to recite cowboy poetry.
Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate cowboy poetry as much as the next guy. But with the nation coming up on a $15 trillion dollar debt, it is definitely something I can live without, as far as taxpayer funding goes.
I’m wondering how much tax money the Senator from Oklahoma spent to break down the budget looking for these earmarks and porc-barrel projects.
Just a thought.
Yep, I agree. Spending any money evaluating the system to look for improvements is for chumps. Just maintain the status quo and nobody gets hurt.
This is what happens when Line Item Veto is not allowed.
Whatever he spent, it was for a good cause, and not for some wasteful use of taxpayers money...

Why don’t we have automatic recalls on dumb government officials who vote for this mess. Do we require random drug tests for these nuts?

This kind of activity has been going on in America for decades. Several years ago,Sen.Wm.Proxmire used to give out the “Golden Fleece Award” for wasteful government spending. Yet,as shown by this article, the waste and corruption goes on unabated, and on a massive scale. A few years ago 7 billion taxpayer dollars disappeared in Iraq, they just couldn’t find the money. This kind of behavior occurs not only on the Federal level but on the State and Local levels as well. Yet every year we hear the same propaganda from the Government and the Media that “taxes are what we pay for a civilized society” and as to how we all have to pay our “fair share.” How “Tax Protesters” and “Tax Cheats” are causing everyone’s taxes to go up, how we have to give the tax collection authorities more tools to collect revenue from the “underground economy.” Yet nothing is ever seriously done to seriously reduce or cut spending. Today, governments on all levels in America tax the average productive American, directly and indirectly,at over 60% of their earnings for the year. Today it takes 2 people to support the average family where 40 years ago the average family could easily live on 1 paycheck.Yet,the government still wants more. So,after decades of waste, corruption and mismanagement ,on all levels of government America is bankrupt and hopelessly saddled with an unsustainable and unpayable debt. Now what? I know,we’ll hire more tax collectors. Yeh right.
